This week, the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis is visiting the Archdiocese of Dublin.
The relic has travelled to Ireland from Assisi Sanctuary of the Renunciation, the Church where Blessed Carlo’s remains are housed and displayed. It is a first-class relic, meaning it is a piece of Blessed Carlo’s body.
Blessed Carlo Acutis was born in London to Italian parents, but grew up in Milan, Italy, where his family relocated when he was just a child. From a young age, he displayed an extraordinary devotion to his Catholic faith. He attended Mass daily, regularly receiving the sacraments. He was known for centering his life on the Eucharist. Always to be united with Jesus, he would say, ‘this is my programme of life.’ Carlo set up a website documenting Eucharistic miracles, and is now considered a patron saint of the internet. On October 10, 2020, he was beatified by Pope Francis, becoming the first millennial to be declared ‘Blessed’ by the Catholic Church. It was said at the time that his beatification highlighted the significance of his witness, particularly for the younger generation, demonstrating that holiness is attainable even in our modern world.
Carlo Acutis (3 May 1991 – 12 October 2006) was an English-born Italian Catholic youth and website designer who is best known for documenting Eucharistic miracles and the approved Marian apparitions around the world and cataloguing them onto a website which he created before his death from leukaemia. He was noted for his cheerfulness, computer skills, and deep devotion to the Eucharist, which became a core theme of his life. He was beatified by the Catholic Church on 10 October 2020, two days before the 14th anniversary of his death.
